Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Richelle Mead's breathtaking Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive. In this second book, the drama is hotter, the romances are steamier, and the stakes are even higher.

Have I ever mentioned how much I adore this series? Or how much I love Richelle Mead for writing a spin-off series? The Golden Lily is the second installment in the Bloodlines series, which is a spin-off series of Vampire Academy. I just absolutely loved this book. I had real high expectations for this book and it didn't disappoint.

I recently went to one of her stops on her book tour and someone asked her why she picked Sydney to be the main focus for this series. She said that she wanted people to see that you can be brave in other ways besides kicking butt like Rose. Sydney is smart and honest and I actually feel like I can relate more to Sydney than I could to Rose. Don't get me wrong, I loved Rose and she is one of my all-time favorite characters but there is something about Sydney that is much more relatable to me. I know that a lot of people complain that they do not like Sydney and wished she would have picked a different character, but I actually really enjoy Sydney's inner babbling. I couldn't picture anyone else but Sydney. It is also interesting to see everything on a different side and point of view.

When I first read Bloodlines I thought that there might be a love triangle between Sydney, Adrian, and Trey. But yes! There wasn't! I am not a big fan of love triangles, I like them if they are done right (ahem... Tessa/Jem/Will) but other than I don't really care for them. Instead of the love triangle we meet this new guy named Brayden, who is basically Sydney just in guy form. He was just so boring and uninteresting! I know that is what the author intended for his character, but I just couldn't take him at all. I was just waiting for Adrian to show up and punch him in the face.

Adrian, oh how I love you. I was always a little upset with the Vampire Academy series with the way Rose treated him and thought that somehow she should have choose him, but THANK GOD she didn't. Then we wouldn't have SYDRIAN *swoons* I was waiting for him to say something to her and when he did, I could just feel my heart beating rapidly in my chest. I just want to smack Sydney in the face, but yet I understand why she did that. I just know that there will be something between them in the next book and it will be some kind of epic love that Jill always talks about.

Since I am talking about Jill, I just don't know what to say about the whole Eddie and Angeline relationship. I am kind of a fan of it and then I am not. I feel like Jill should speak up more about how she feels or Eddie is never going to know. I am interested to see how Eddie and Angeline will be and I might grow to like them, but I am still on the Jill and Eddie ship.

We learn some new information about a different group of humans that hunt strigoi. I am interested to see where this will go in the next book. I am just hoping that we will learn more facts on this guy that has an indigo tattoo and since the next book title has indigo in it, I believe that might be the case! I am so excited for the next book, but mostly for the Adrian and Sydney scenes. I know, I have a thing for the forbidden romance ;)

  1. I'm a bit reluctant to read this series because I loved the VA series so much, and especially loved Rose. I'm glad to hear that Sydney is relatable and a likable character, as I think that one of my main misgivings about reading this is that I won't like or get Sydney. Great review!

  3. Olivia, I am so with you on everything, haha!

I actually prefer Sydney to Rose as a protagonist. I loved Rose but I can totally relate to Sydney much better and love how different she is.

Brayden drove me nuts and Adrian owns my heart, lol.

I also ship Jill and Eddie and well, Sydrian are my babies :D

I loved your review, girl! It was awesome <3

Everything is Sydrian and nothing hurts! :D
